A FAMILY holiday can quickly spiral out of control when it comes to cost, with some breaks costing thousands of pounds.
But one European holiday park offers a budget-friendly alternative that’s more than £1,000 cheaper than Center Parcs.
Sunparks Kempense Meren is set just east of Antwerp in Belgium.
The Euopean park is part of Sunparks – the little sister of the European Center Parcs.
Despite being set nowhere near the beach, the holiday parks features plenty of water-based activities like a subtropical swimming pool with slides and rapids.
There’s also a heated outdoor swimming pool with a sun terrace, a jacuzzi and a children’s paddling pool.
Other activities include archery, bowling, pool tables as well as live music events.
While open-air acitivies include archery battles, laser battles and paddleboarding.
For holidaymakers who enjoy the great outdoors, there are also woodland cycling routes and nature walks.
Other outdoor activities include mini golf and pedalos.
On-site there are also several restaurants including a beach bar, a buffet restaurant, a pizzeria and a sports bar.
Sunparks Kempense Meren has a 3.5/5 star rating on TripAdvisor from 1,732 reviews.
One person wrote: “The children loved the waves, slides, wild river, and outside pool. It’s a great place and very well maintained.”
While another added: “We stayed here for a week in a three-bed exclusive cottage with a sauna. We have never been disappointed with Sunparks and can never find a fault.”
But other holidaymakers weren’t as impressed with the facilities and described the park’s decor as “dated”.
Someone wrote: “The common theme was that it was good but tired, and I wholeheartedly agree.”
Despite the mixed comments, more than 930 holidaymakers gave the Belgium holiday park either four or five stars.
This was often because of the park’s budget-friendly prices.
Sun Online Travel found a seven-night break at a holiday house in Kempense Meren costing £800 for a family of four on August 21.
Meanwhile a lodge at Center Parcs Sherwood Forest would cost £2,228 – more than £1,000 extra.
At Kempense Meren, there are a range of accommodation options to chose from including holiday houses and hoteL rooms.
For Brit holidaymakers who want to visit, the easiest way to reach the European holiday is by taking a ferry to the Hook of Holland.
From there, the site is a two-hour drive.
Sun Online Travel recently visited the holiday park earlier this year – and here’s what you can expect.
