Eric Trump came to his father’s defense Wednesday, armed with a soundbite that’s getting attention. “My father sees one color, green,” Trump said on Fox & Friends. “That is all he cares about, he cares about the economy. He does not see race.”

As ABC News notes, Trump was pushing back against allegations that his father is racist in the wake of the “shithole countries” controversy. The younger Trump also echoed his father’s own sentiments by declaring that the president “is the least racist person I have ever met in my entire life,” per the Guardian.

The younger Trump cited an improving unemployment picture for African-Americans to bolster his case. “They will never report that African-American unemployment is the lowest it ever been,” he said of the media. “And they’ll go out and will call him racist. It’s very sad, it’s a race to the bottom. They stoop very, very low.”

Trump, then, won’t be pleased to read this account of his interview at Mediaite, which provides background on how allegations of racism have dogged Donald Trump throughout his career, going back to an investigation by the Justice Department in the 1970s into housing discrimination.
