Black was the color of the day. And media and other guests could not get in unless they were tested for COVID.
A phalanx of TV Cameramen stood in front of the area where the celebrity endorser was to hold forth with media. Jazzy, music hall songs from another era could be heard in the sound system. There was “La Vie en Rose” in English, first popularized by Edith Piaf, as well as Charlie Chaplin’s “Smile,” as sung by Nat King Cole.
The festive occasion was the press conference given by charismatic actor Daniel Padilla, called “The Mossimo Vibe Launch,” held at Ponce Tapas and Wine in Quezon City. He is the brand’s first endorser.
Although still a heartthrob, Padilla has rapidly evolved into a young actor of note taken seriously by the critics. And he is not photogenic, meaning he looks more handsome in person than in his publicity shots.
Character is important
The celebrity endorser told media that the character of the people he works with is important for him: “Importante para sa akin ang personalidad ng mga katrabaho ko.”
He indicated that values have a meaning for him, and apparently he practices what he preaches. After all, he has stuck it out with ABS-CBN when other talents have flocked to the rival network.
So how will he spend Christmas, one media man asked. “I will just spend it at home and invite my best friends,” he said.
What does he think about Philippine theater, musical and straight? Will he accept a lead role in a play if an opportunity presented itself? He indicated he would, observing that “I had many companions (kasama) in the theater before. The problem is time, as I am doing so many things.”
In his work, what have been the memorable moments? He couldn’t pinpoint as there must have been many: “I cannot say, ang dami kasi.”
On his role as a brand ambassador, Daniel expressed excitement: “I am open to collaboration, usap-usap (discussions) … those are important to me. That’s why I decided to accept the project. I’m excited. Everybody’s excited. I’ll just be myself … no pressure.”
