Emma Watson took to Instagram on her 33rd birthday yesterday, to speak candidly about “learning more about love and being a woman” over the last year.
The Harry Potter actress’ rare personal post saw her admit to “stepping away from life”.
The Hermione Granger favourite reflected on what had been keeping her busy, including horse-riding, “a lot” of therapy, starting a gin company as well as a women’s environmental investment fund.
In the update shared with her 70 million followers, Emma admitted to previously feeling “really sad and really p***ed off about a lot of things”.
Her honest words were accompanied by stunning, monochrome snaps taken on her big day last year.

Emma captioned one: “This is 33. Holy moly. Before 29 I hadn’t even heard of a Saturn Return as a concept.
“Let’s just say that now I am well acquainted.”
She continued: “I stepped away from my life – I learned to surf (badly), I rode some horses (that went better), I did a lot of therapy (YESS therapy!).
“My brother and I figured out how to make a gin using recycled wine grapes!? (@renaisspirits), I adopted Sofia in Mexico, who seems to be an angel not a dog.
“We filmed a Harry Potter reunion. I said goodbye to my Grandma and Grandpa. I retraced my steps.”
Emma said a cooking mishap had seen her cut both thumbnails off, meaning she had to do tasks one-handed “for months”.
She went on: “I felt really sad and really p***ed off about a lot of things. I learned more about love and being a woman.
“It took me three years but I have finally figured out a daily practice and can actually keep it for more than a few days in a row. I burned some things down. I eat green things now!”
Emma also reflected on making her directorial debut with a short film marking the launch of Prada’s new women’s fragrance, before showing her gratitude to her loved ones.
She added: “These pictures were actually taken on my birthday last year, but I wasn’t ready to come out of my Covid Cocoon.
“Thank you to the witches in my coven who were so pivotal in helping me arrive at where and who I am now. You are my Avengers and you inspire me and kick ass. It takes a village, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.”
The star was soon inundated with comments, with Vanessa Hudgens branding her a “goddess”.
