Emma Raducanu sends cryptic message after confirming tennis comeback

Raducanu has been sidelined since May when she had operations on both wrists and one ankle. The former world No 10 has since missed the French Open and her home Grand Slam tournament, Wimbledon. But there looks to be good news for the 20-year-old as she shared a mysterious message on social media.

“Today was a good day – [sponge emoji [tennis ball emoji],” she tweeted on Thursday evening. It comes days after the Brit got back in the gym for the first time as she previously posted some photos of herself on an exercise bike.

Raducanu has also already committed to a tournament for the first time since going under the knife. The US Open champion joined a star-studded field at the MGM Macau Tennis Masters – an exhibition tournament taking place in December.

The tournament takes place on December 2 and 3 and is a mixed event with two men’s singles matches and one mixed doubles on Saturday plus one women’s singles match and two men’s singles matches on Sunday. Raducanu will take on Olympic gold medallist Belinda Bencic in the women’s match.

Top 10 stars Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe are also part of the line-up, as well as home star Wu Yibing. “There will be an even greater connection to the local community,” Luiz Carvalho, senior vice-president at IMG – the agency that represents Raducanu and is also involved in hosting the tournament – said after Raducanu and Yibing were confirmed.

“Emma’s Chinese roots and her remarkable rise to stardom by winning the US Open have made her a global sensation, while Wu Yibing’s historic feat as the first Chinese national to win an ATP tournament has significantly elevated his standing in world tennis.”
