As an actor, it’s important to be animated and be able to express yourself. And Emilia Clarke took this advice to heart.
The English actress shot to global fame through her role as Daenerys Targaryen, with viewers in awe of her transformation from meek victim to all powerful – and eventually tyrannical – leader.
Her performance as the Khaleesi has inspired fan art and fan fiction, and – naturally – plenty of memes, with one popular one simply zooming up on her non-plussed, ridiculously animated face.
Now fans of the star have been left in bits as Emilia’s expressions went into overdrive in a recent interview as the star spoke passionately, with one person joking she had the ‘hardest working eyebrows in Hollywood.’
The Last Christmas star was speaking to Variety at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival when she was asked if she would be watching popular GoT prequel House of the Dragon.
While her response – that she would be doing no such thing – made headlines, fans have now been honing in on her facial expressions during her explanation.
‘I’m just here for the quality eyebrow content,’ one person wrote, while another shared a screenshot form a particularly expressive eyebrow moment and asked: ‘Why did I think it was a filter?’
‘Emilia’s expressions so strong her eyebrows literally being orchestrated,’ another said, while as one person put it: ‘Yo her eyebrows moving around hella.’
One Twitter user suggested that her animated expressions actually proved her talent as an actress, as they mused it must have ‘been really hard to control her eyebrows in Game of Thrones.’
‘Her eyebrows have a life of their own,’ another agreed.
Emilia had hesitated for a moment after being asked if she had watched the Game of Thrones spin-off before painfully admitting: ‘No!’
‘I just can’t do it,’ she went on, asking the interviewer if he could forgive her.
‘It’s too weird. I’m so happy it’s happening. I’m over the moon about all the awards… I just can’t do it. It’s so weird. It’s so strange.
‘It’s kind of like someone saying, “You want to go to this school reunion that’s not your year? Want to go to that school reunion?” That’s how it feels.
‘I’m avoiding it,’ she admitted.
Emilia starred in the epic fantasy series for eight years from 2011 to 2019, where her character tried to claim the Iron Throne as her own through brutal and bloody tactics.
Her journey came to a fatal end in season 8, when – in scenes that have been heavily criticised by many GOT aficionados – she was stabbed to death by her lover (and nephew) Jon Snow (Kit Harington).
Last year, House of the Dragon premiered, telling the backstory of House Targaryen in a tale set 172 years before Daenerys’ birth.
The show has received critical acclaim and accolades, having recently won the Golden Globe for best drama television series.
A Jon Snow sequel series is also officially in the works, with some hopeful it could provide an opening for Daenerys to return, thanks to some fan theories proving popular online…
