Elizabeth Debicki imitates Diana’s 1987 gown at The Crown premiere

Elizabeth Debicki, 32, who plays Princess Diana in the new season of The Crown, cut a glamorous figure on the red carpet on Tuesday evening. She wore a black sleeveless gown by Dior.

The strapless garment also featured a matching stripe detail while Elizabeth added height to her frame with a pair of heels.

Also sporting several gold Dior bracelets the TV star styled her blonde locks into an updo for the star-studded event.

Princess Diana wore an identical gown back in 1987 at the Cannes Film Festival in France, except she wore a baby blue version.

Her iconic blue gown with a scarf around her neck paid homage to Grace Kelly, who wore a similar blue gown in her heyday as Princess Grace.

Diana was photographed wearing a now-iconic powder blue chiffon gown by one of her favourite designers, Catherine Walker.

The dress was worn with a matching scarf and quickly became one of Princess Diana’s most fondly remembered style moments.

The dress was put up for auction at the Julien’s Auction Hollywood Legends Memorabilia auction in 2011.

However, it wasn’t until just before the Cannes Film Festival in 2013 that it was eventually sold at the LA auction house for a cool £81,000, the proceeds from which went to a children’s charity.
