He was reportedly trying to move a crocodile out of the cage after it laid eggs. He was using a stick to move the reptile when it grabbed it and pulled him in, according to a report in AFP.

“While he was chasing a crocodile out of an egg-laying cage, the crocodile attacked the stick, causing him to fall into the enclosure,” Mey Savry, police chief of Siem Reap commune, told AFP. “Then other crocodiles pounced, attacking him until he was dead,” he claimed.

He was from Po Banteay Chey village within the Siem Reap commune, local media reports claimed.

The police chief said that the 71-year-old deceased’s body was covered with bite marks and one of his arms was bitten off and eaten up by the reptiles.

Also, Nam was the president of the country’s Crocodile Association.

In a similar incident, a two-year-old girl was killed and eaten by crocodiles in 2019. The incident occurred when she wandered into her family’s reptile farm in the same village.

There are many crocodile farms around Siem Reap. In Cambodia, it is common for farmers to breed and trade crocodiles. They sell reptiles to China, Thailand, and Vietnam and seek their skin for the production of leather and various other goods.
