EasyJet travel update – message to Brits travelling with airline this summer

EASYJET passengers are being told they can drop their suitcases at the airport the night BEFORE their flight to try and avoid the long queues.

Travellers across the country continue to face severe delays at airports, as both airlines and airports struggle with staff shortages.

So easyJet has brought back its twilight bag drop service at London Gatwick and introduced it at Bristol airport for the first time.

The service allows customers on early morning flights to drop their hold bags off the evening before they travel, allowing them to head straight to security on the day they fly.

While all airlines have been affected by the travel chaos this summer, easyJet is among the worst hit.

An investigation by Panorama, due to be broadcast this evening (Monday, July 18) on BBC One at 8pm, has revealed which airlines are cancelling the greatest number of flights and which ones are sticking to their schedules.

The investigation revealed that the worst offenders this year so far have been easyJet and British Airways, who have grounded three out of every hundred flights they were due to operate.

Meanwhile, Ryanair and Jet2 had the fewest cancellations, with just  one in every thousand scheduled flights not taking off.

But they have introduced a number of measures this week to try and improve the flying experience for their customers, including the twilight bag drop.

The budget airline has also launched a new hotline for families with young children, added 350 call centre staff members, extended customer service opening hours and added assistants at airports.

Parents flying with children under 12 can call the helpline to talk to customer service staff with expertise in assisting families.

Extra support for customers will be available in airports too, with head office staff working alongside ground crew.

The ‘Helping Hands’ have initially been introduced at London Gatwick, Luton, Manchester, Bristol and Edinburgh between Wednesdays – Sundays, until September 4.

The airline has already launched some all-inclusive holiday deals for 2023.
