Eamonn Holmes hits back after being accused of ‘gloating’ over Phillip Schofield

Former This Morning presenter Eamonn Holmes, 63, took to Twitter to share a sweet family photo this afternoon.

However, it wasn’t long before fans began to link his tweet about today being “a good day” to the news that Phillip Schofield has left the ITV show.

Eamonn, who has been open about his dislike for Phillip in the past, uploaded a photo of his granddaughter Emilia giving him a kiss on the cheek, alongside the caption: “Pappa got a smacker. Thank u Emilia.

“All in all that rounded off what turned out to be a good day.”

Despite the adorable moment, fans were more distracted by what seemed to be a cryptic hint from Eamonn after Phillip announced his departure from This Morning earlier in the afternoon.

One fan replied: “Ha ha Eamonn,I know you must be happy with the news.”

Another Twitter user, on the other hand, was less than impressed, as they then replied: “Gloating is not classy.”

Eamonn spotted the criticism and was quick to fire back in a cryptic dig: “Please don’t have me outlining what’s really not classy.”

The star, who moved to GB News after leaving This Morning in 2021, took a swipe at rumours of a rift between Phillip and his co-host Holly Willoughby on-air last week.

Eamonn told GB News viewers of the duo missing BAFTA TV Awards: “I think there should have been a special award for Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby for best actors.”

In the aftermath of Eamonn quitting This Morning alongside his co-host and wife Ruth Langsford, the star didn’t pull any punches in sharing what he thought of Phillip.

Tensions worsened between Eamonn and Phillip when the latter seemingly cut off his other half Ruth during a segment on ITV’s Loose Women.

Eamonn said in an interview with The Daily Mail’s Weekend Magazine at the time: “Phillip is renowned for snubbing people. He’s very passive-aggressive.

“It’s up to Ruth to say how she felt, but I was feeling hurt for her. No one would have snubbed me like that.”

Phillip confirmed his exit from This Morning in a post to his Instagram Stories today, saying: “I have always been proud to cover fascinating stories on This Morning. But recently, This Morning itself has become the story.

“Throughout my career in TV – including the very difficult last few days – I have always done my best to be honourable and kind. I understand that ITV has decided the current situation can’t go on, and I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love.

“So I have agreed to step down from This Morning with immediate effect, in the hope that the show can move forward to a bright future. I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me – especially This Morning’s amazing viewers – and I’ll see you all for the Soap Awards next month.”

Holly Willoughby said: “It’s been over 13 great years presenting This Morning with Phil and I want to take this opportunity to thank him for all of his knowledge, his experience and his humour. The sofa won’t feel the same without him.”
