With a second bank holiday incoming – this time for The Coronation of King Charles III – many people may be wondering how it will affect their cost of living payments.

The payment is a lifeline for many, especially with the cost of a weekly shop soaring on top of rocketing bills – but the bank holiday affects the dates of some benefit payments.

This Monday’s bank holiday (on May 8) comes hot on the heels of Easter and the early May bank holiday, both of which affected the payment dates for certain benefits.

Millions of people have already received the first £301 cost of living payment – the first of three which will total £900 – but many are still waiting.

So can the cost of living payment be made on a Saturday or bank holiday Monday?

Here’s what you need to know.

The first £301 cost of living payment is being rolled out now.

Those eligible began to receive the payments on April 25, and the rollout will continue until May 17 for those on DWP benefits.

Eligible people on tax credits and no other benefits will receive the cost of living payment between today (May 2) and May 9.

The good news is that if your benefit was due to be paid on Monday, May 8 you can expect it to arrive early, by Friday, May 5.
