DSTLRY: The Devil’s Cut Delivers a Murderer’s Row of Comic Book Talent

DSTLRY is a newcomer to the comic book publishing scene, but never let it be said they don’t have a huge arsenal of creative talent to bring to bear. That roster is on full display in DSTLRY’s first major release, an oversized one-shot called The Devil’s Cut #1.

IGN can exclusively debut the teaser trailer for The Devil’s Cut #1. Check it out below:

In keeping with the “distillery” theme of this new publisher, the term “the devil’s cut” refers to the high-proof whiskey captured in the wood when aged in a barrel. The Devil’s Cut #1 is meant to provide a sampling of the many creators who have signed on with this new publisher, including the full lineup of “Founding Creators.” The book is edited by Will Dennis and includes new material from the following creators:

  • Mirka Andolfo (Sweet Paprika, Mercy)
  • Brian Azzarello (100 Bullets, Joker)
  • Marc Bernardin (Adora and the Distance, Star Trek: Picard)
  • Elsa Charretier (Love Everlasting, November)
  • Becky Cloonan (Wonder Woman, Batgirls)
  • Lee Garbett (Spider-Man, Skyward)
  • Jock (Batman: One Dark Knight, Wytches)
  • Joëlle Jones (Lady Killer, Catwoman)
  • Tula Lotay (Barnstormers)
  • Jamie McKelvie (The Wicked + The Divine, Captain Carter)
  • Junko Mizuno (Pure Trance, Ravina the Witch?)
  • Stephanie Phillips (Grim, Harley Quinn)
  • Scott Snyder (Batman, Wytches)
  • James Tynion IV (Something Is Killing the Children, The Joker War)
  • Ram V (Detective Comics, The Many Deaths of Laila Starr)
  • Francesco Francavilla (Detective Comics, Night of the Ghoul)
  • Ariela Kristantina (InSEXts, Deep State)
  • Eduardo Risso (Batman: Broken City, 100 Bullets)
  • Christian Ward (Invisible Kingdom, Aquaman: Andromeda)

“The Devil’s Cut is the perfect debut from DSTLRY, with our Founding Creators and friends delivering an amazing collection of completely self-contained stories. It’s a prime example of the ambition and skill that you can expect from top-flight creators when they’re given the canvas, freedom, and support to create the next generation of comics,” said DSTLRY co-founders Chip Mosher and David Steinberger in a statement.

The Devil’s Cut #1 will be released in print and digitally on August 30, 2023. In keeping with the publisher’s novel approach to digital comics, the digital version will only be sold through September 6. After that point, owners can resell their digital copies on the DSTLRY marketplace. The publisher also notes that the print version will never be reprinted in this form after it sells out.
