Drivers warned about ongoing scam that could cost them £100s if they’re unaware

A SCAM currently happening in parts of Wales has seen drivers handing over £100s.

Police are worried that the scam could spread to other parts of Britain and have advised drivers to stay vigilant.

It’s reported that the driver of a Range Rover in North Wales was hit by the scam in the Pensarn area of Conwy on 30th May.

Fraudsters pretend that your car’s door mirror has struck their car and demand payment for the repairs there and then.

A North Wales Police spokesperson warned: “The victim will be driving along and then hear a bang on the passenger side of their vehicle.

A car will then follow behind, get them to pull over and then claim that the victim just struck his driver’s door mirror and demand cash for repairs.

“What actually happens is that the scammer is parked at the roadside and will deliberately strike the victim’s car as it passes. The damaged mirror is fake and wasn’t caused by the victim.”

The police said that anyone with information about the Pensarn incident should come forward.

They can do so by calling 101 and quoting the reference code B078072.

Car door mirrors never used to be much more advanced than a piece of glass, but in recent years they have become much more advanced and cost much more to replace.

In the most extreme cases, some cars now have cameras instead of glass to enable the driver to see behind.

These cameras can cost £1000s to replace if they are struck by another car.

This is latest in a long list of scams that drivers are having to avoid.

It was also reported today that unofficial queue-jumping sites are selling driving tests for a whopping £200, as learners are forced to wait months in a massive backlog.

Learner drivers are forking out more than double the usual fee for a practical test to skip vast queues around the country.
