Deathloop PS5 to Be Distributed By Sony in India

Timed PS5 console exclusive Deathloop will be distributed by Sony in India. According to multiple sources speaking to IGN India on condition of anonymity, Sony will be bringing Deathloop on PS5 to emerging markets which include India, Latin America, and the Middle East. The PC version of the game will still be distributed by Bethesda or its partners in these markets.

This is fantastic news for Indian gamers. Reason being: Sony’s got tremendous reach when it comes to getting games in-store and upfront and centre to gamers in the nation. While Deathloop for PS5 was already up for pre-order at a few stores, expect more of them to go live with pre-orders soon enough.

The Deathloop PS5 India price is now Rs. 3,999. When the game first went up for pre-order it was Rs. 4,499. It is unknown if the Deluxe Edition of Deathloop PS5, which was previously listed for Rs. 5,699 will make it to India. We’ve reached out to Sony for comment and will update this story if we hear from the company.

It’s interesting to see Sony stick to the lower price for PS5 buyers that previous distributor E-xpress implemented. More so with Sony’s recent pricing shenanigans resulting in an exceedingly prohibitive Rs. 4,999 price for its PS5 exclusives rather than the tiered pricing model we saw last generation.

The strain is obvious what with Indian retailers discounting PS5 exclusives like Returnal during the pre-order phase itself. Sticking to a fairer price from the get go reduces discounting down the line in most cases too as we’ve seen with recent PS5 third-party releases.

It’s something that PlayStation India boss Prosenjit Ghosh has been vocal about in the past.

His comments were made at an industry panel discussion in response to suggestions that Indian gamers want only Indian games.

“[Indian gamers want] better price,” he said at the time. “They don’t want Indian content only, [they’re] okay with international content.”

This should come as no surprise with PS5 exclusives costing Rs. 5,000 which is roughly Rs. 1,000 more than most third-party games on the console, making it highly prohibitive to buy games on launch day.

Perhaps Sony is using Deathloop as a test case: to see if audiences in India and other emerging markets are receptive to a lower price tag, which may open the door for better pricing down the line.

Deathloop is out on September 14, 2021 for PS5 and PC. Expect an Xbox Series X|S release after its timed one-year console exclusivity deal expires.
