Deadpool Tries to Join Krakoa, With Horrifying Results
Marvel’s Deadpool/Wade Wilson is making his way to Krakoa to try and join the mutants’ infamous safe haven. The results are horrifying.
Deadpool is making a serious attempt to join the mutants Krakoa in Marvel’s Wolverine #20. The initial effort goes about as well as you might expect.
In a preview for Wolverine #20 provided by Marvel, Wade Wilson/Deadpool is asking himself why he isn’t allowed to join the mutant island. “The mutants get Mars,” his inner monologue reads. “The mutants travel by magical flower-power doorways. The mutants live on a sick-ass tropical resort. The mutants dominate politics, revitalize medicine, wear the sweetest threads and sell all the comic books.” Determined to join the mutants, Deadpool attempts to parachute onto the island. The effort is cut short by a series of missiles that obliterate the Merc with a Mouth into several pieces.
He may be down for a moment, but Deadpool is determined to not let that stop him. His inner monologue continues to read, “I’m starting to get the feeling that I’m not welcome. That’s okay. They’ll come around. Eventually. I can be very persistent.”
Deadpool, who is technically not a mutant and was previously an X-Force member, initially rejected Krakoa when the island only granted him guest privileges rather than full residency. During last year’s Hellfire Gala, Wilson changed his mind and attempted to sneak into the event. After a few failed attempts, he eventually manages to find his way in after a confrontation with the ambassadors of Terra Verde.
Wolverine #20 will see Deadpool and Wolverine join forces to stop an unknown threat from destroying Krakoa. The synopsis for the issue reads, “THE BRUTAL RETURN OF THE BEST THERE IS…WITH AN UNLIKELY PARTNER! DEADPOOL was the king of Staten Island — now he wants to be an honorary citizen of Krakoa. WOLVERINE just wants him to shut up. But when Deadpool uncovers a dangerous plot that could mean doom for the mutants’ safe haven, it’s going to take a titanic team-up of the Best There Is and the Merc with a Mouth to quell the threat. But that doesn’t mean Logan has to like it. Featuring Wolverine and Deadpool at their most savage, as well as the return of a fan-favorite X-character to the Krakoan era! (And no, we don’t mean Wade.)”
Wolverine #20 comes from writer Benjamin Percy, artist Adam Kubert, color artists Frank Martin and Dijjo Lima and letterer VC’s Cory Petit, with cover art by Kubert and Martin and variant cover art by Carlos Gómez, Jesus Aburtov, Tyler Kirkham, Arif Prianto and Jorge Fornés. The issue releases April 20 from Marvel.
