DC’s First Green Lantern Gets a Personal Mission in Infinite Frontier

As the scope of Infinite Frontier sweeps across the DC Multiverse, Alan Scott focuses his attention on a crisis that’s especially close to home.

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Infinite Frontier #2, by Joshua Williamson, Paul Pelletier, Norm Rapmund, Jesus Merino, Xermanico, Romulo Fajardo, Jr. and Tom Napolitano, on sale now.

Poor, poor Alan Scott. For years, the original Green Lantern was erased from the history of the main DC Universe, along with the rest of the Justice Society of America, at the dawn of the New 52 era a full decade ago. Alan and his Justice Society teammates were restored at the end of Geoff Johns and Gary Frank’s Doomsday Clock, though they were largely sidelined throughout the remainder of the DC Rebirth era until Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s crossover event Dark Nights: Death Metal. And just as Alan is poised to step back into the spotlight, a new mystery strikes at the core of his family: The disappearance of his superhero daughter, Jade.

Alan’s children Jade and Obsidian were both present at the start of the Infinite Frontier era, reuniting with their father as the DC Multiverse was reborn from the fires of Death Metal. In an emotional moment between the three, Alan came out to his children after decades of keeping his homosexuality hidden from them and the general public. Alan then resolved to find the rest of his missing Justice Society teammates in this brave new world while Jade faced her own existential crisis, pondering her restored place in the multiverse after receiving yet another lease on life after temporarily being erased from reality like the rest of her family during the New 52 era.

Jay and Obsidian meet with Mister Terrific and Vandal Savage in the ruins of the Justice Society headquarters after the building was rocked by a fiery green explosion matching the energy signature of Jade and Alan’s unique Power Ring. As the group goes over the evidence and compares notes, Terrific reveals that several of the younger members of the Justice Society remain unaccounted for as the mysterious Totality continues to cause shifts to the fabric of reality. Among the missing superheroes is Jade, despite her earlier appearance at the start of the Infinite Frontier era.

Obsidian is understandably upset that his sister has gone missing after being reunited with her only so briefly months ago. While Savage insists that Alan abandon the search for his daughter and continue to investigate the mysteries of the Totality, an angry Alan rebuffs this request and reaffirms that nothing is more important to him than his family. Suspecting that a longtime enemy of the Justice Society may be behind the string of disappearances, Alan and Obsidian set out to explore the darkest corners of the DCU for clues on what has happened to Jade and who is responsible for taking her away.

Alan and Obsidian’s mission has led them on their own immensely personal mission and left Terrific and Savage to continue their investigation of the Totality on their own. Alan’s reunion with his children was cut abruptly short by unknown forces, targeting Jade as she pondered her own cosmic rebirth. And with the Justice Society having no shortage of enemies — given their long history stretching back since World War II — there are plenty of suspects that could be behind the kidnapping of the next generation of Justice Society heroes. And with several of the elder statesmen also missing from the Justice Society since Death Metal, Alan is without some of his oldest allies as his next mission begins.
