Danny Trejo steps out in high spirits despite ‘filing for bankruptcy’

Danny Trejo, 78, showed off his youthful appearance as he stepped out in New York on Thursday in an eye-catching ensemble.

The Machete actor sported a black long jacket, showing off the blue inner lining, along with his signature DT logo covered in rhinestones.

Matching the lining, the actor donned royal blue smart jeans, pairing them with a black t-shirt.

Danny was in New York to make an appearance on The Late Late Show with Stephen Colbert, promoting his new cookbook, Trejo’s Cantina.

Danny’s appearance comes after reports that he had “filed for bankruptcy” to “reorganise his assets” and help deal with his “$2 million tax bill”, according to TMZ.

Despite his film career continuing into his later years, Danny has kept himself busy with various food businesses, including Trejo Tacos and Trejo’s Coffee and Donuts in Las Vegas.

This didn’t stop the actor from reportedly filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, which is referred to as the “reorganisation bankruptcy”, allowing a company to stay in business and restructure its obligations.

The outlet added that he “jokingly” revealed he realises dog grooming is not a “legit expense you can write off”.

The type of bankruptcy means that his several businesses, which include his record label and his numerous Los Angeles restaurants, are not affected by it.

Danny added that he expects to be debt-free by some point in 2024.

His Hollywood career has slowed down in recent years, however, the Spy Kids star was honoured with his own life-size wax figure at Madame Tussauds in 2021.

Danny later spoke to KTLA following the statue’s unveiling and told the outlet about his impression of the figure.

He said: “It was so humbling, and I’m usually pretty good at just winging a speech, but when I saw that I was just, like, tongue-tied.

“It was kind of creepy, but they made him look better than me, so that was cool.”

Danny recently shared his desire to continue doing independent movies, sharing the sweet reason why.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Danny explained: “I’m the king of independent movies, and I love it!

“I like doing them because, on an independent movie, it’s, ‘I pawned my car for this, my mum loaned me the money for this.’

“It’s serious stuff. An independent movie is more serious than a billion-dollar movie.”
