Dandadan Manga Creator Narrowly Saves Final Pages of Chapter From Deletion

Dandadan manga creator Yukinobu Tatsu revealed that he nearly lost the final pages of a chapter with no backups.

Dandadan Volume 3’s English translation by Viz Media released on April 11, and it contained a message from the author and artist Tatsu about the incident (via CBR).

The author revealed that he overwrote the files which contained the final pages of a chapter. While Tatsu revealed that he was able to recover the files, there was no backup made of them. The final pages of a manga chapter generally build up the excitement for the next chapter, and they tend to be quite detailed. If these pages were overwritten permanently, that would have been a major loss of time and resources.

Dandadan’s creator has worked with popular manga creator Tatsuki Fujimoto as an assistant, working on hit titles such as Chainsaw Man and Fire Punch. He also worked with Yuji Kaku on Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku.

Dandadan was confirmed to serialise in Shonen Jump+ in 2020, but Natsu wanted to finish his work on Chainsaw Man and Hell’s Paradise. This is why the manga started serialisation a year later. Dandadan is available digitally on Shueisha’s Manga Plus service and Viz Media’s Shonen Jump. The physical volumes are also licensed by Viz Media.

Momo Ayase strikes up an unusual friendship with her school’s UFO fanatic, whom she nicknames “Okarun” because he has a name that is not to be said aloud. While Momo believes in spirits, she thinks aliens are nothing but nonsense. Her new friend, meanwhile, thinks the exact opposite. To settle matters, the two set out to prove each other wrong—Momo to a UFO hotspot and Okarun to a haunted tunnel!
