Dancing On Ice’s Connor Ball bleeds as stitches open up during skate

Dancing On Ice star Connor Ball was left bleeding during his skate after suffering an injury moments before broadcast.

The Vamps singer took to the ice on Sunday night with his partner Alexandra Schauman to perform a Charleston to Take That song Out Of Our Heads.

However, as he spoke to judges immediately after the performance, it was clear Connor was injured as he held a tissue to his chin while blood was visible on his white shirt.

Presenter Stephen Mulhern, who is filling in for Phillip Schofield, addressed the injury and explained that Connor was meant to open Sunday’s show but had an accident right before where he cut his chin open.

Stephen said: ‘I don’t know if you can see this but Dancing On Ice is completely live and Connor was meant to open the entire show, but had an accident before the show.

‘He had stitches before the show so he couldn’t go on first and they have now opened up.’

Connor clutched a tissue to his chin as blood dripped onto his collar and explained: ‘I was a bit stressed about the spin so I kept trying to perfect the spin and I slipped out and smacked my face on the ice.’

Stephen then reassured the star: ‘We’ll get it seen to, it’s dripping on the ice,’ adding that paramedics were on standby.

Judge Ashley Banjo then heaped praise on Connor’s professionalism and said: ‘Still coming out with blood on your face takes some guts. You looked a little concerned but now I know why.’

For all his efforts, Connor earned a score of 33 out of 40 but viewers felt he deserved more in light of his injury and also that he should have sought medical attention before speaking to the judges.

Reacting to Connor’s injury, one viewer tweeted: ‘Am I the only one that thinks Connor should have been allowed to get treatment instead of letting him bleed. Fantastic dance from Connor & @AlexandraLukasz . Know the judges comments are important but getting the bleeding stopped also important.’

Another agreed: ‘I think they should have let Connor go and see the paramedics rather than hear the judges comments… just a tad uncomfortable to watch.’

One viewer weighed in: ‘Connor coming out skating amazing whilst in pain my love for him he’s iconic.’

Dancing On Ice airs Sundays at 6pm on ITV.
