Cops seize two Lamborghinis after drivers were stopped over noisy motors

POLICE have seized two supercars in the centre of Manchester after the drivers were stopped for their noise motors and couldn’t produce valid insurance documents.

Cops first stopped a grey £181,000 Lamborghini Huracan, which has a top speed of 200mph, as it had been revving its engine loudly.

Within hours they stopped another Huracan, this time in gold.

Both were taken off the roads and the drivers have been reported for traffic offences.

The force posted pictures of the seized vehicles on their social media accounts, the latest moves by the police and council to crack down on rogue drivers of supercars in the city centre, particularly on Deansgate which has become something of a magnet for petrolheads wanting to show off.

But the parade of loud, expensive cars can also be irritating, not to mention anti-social, for people who live and work in the city centre.

Greater Manchester Police, on its city centre Facebook and Twitter accounts, posted pictures of the latest flash motors to be taken off the roads.

The force posted a picture of a gold Lamborghini Huracan on the back of a flatbed truck and wrote: “The driver of this vehicle was stopped by GMP #TransportUnit after checks showed that it was uninsured.

“The driver was unable to produce a policy which resulted in them being issued a (Traffic Offence Report) and the vehicle being seized.”

Two hours earlier, GMP posted a picture of an officer talking to the driver of another Husacan and wrote: “Another seized (car) last night. Attention was drawn to it by it’s engine revving & non-conforming registration mark.

“The driver was unable to produce insurance. The (car) was last taxed in summer 2022. Detected & seized by our @GMPSpecials.”

Councillors have previously condemned “man boy racers” who regularly cause noise chaos along Deansgate and adjoining Peter Street on weekends.

City centre spokesperson councillor Pat Karney previously called on specialist noise detecting traffic cameras to be introduced in Manchester to tackle the problem and catch motorists – as the trials were rolled out elsewhere, such as in Bristol, Birmingham and Bradford.

He told of how those living in city centre apartments close to Deansgate were constantly disturbed by the noise, particularly on weekends and in the early hours, and that their ‘lives are being made into a misery’ by the “absolute idiots”.

Coun Karney said: “For people who live in the area, they are plagued by supercars racing up and down Deansgate, Peter Street and Quay Street.

“They go around at 2 or 3 in the morning, particularly on weekends.”

In December, an Audi R8 was seized after driving “anti-socially” on Deansgate in front of police officers and in January police seized an uninsured matt black Dodge Challenger on Deansgate.
