Cole Beasley’s vaccine comments: Timeline of Bills WR’s tweets about NFL’s COVID rules
Cole Beasley got a lot of attention for his play during the 2020 NFL season for his strong play with the Bills. He recorded 82 catches for 967 yards and four touchdowns . . . all while playing on broken fibula from Week 16 on.
However, Beasley has drawn attention for a different reason: his refusal to get vaccinated.
Beasley has made it known that he doesn’t plan on getting vaccinated. He has bashed the NFL’s COVID protocols repeatedly during the offseason and has drawn a lot of negative attention this offseason. That’s part of why he was booed during Buffalo’s Week 4 home game against Houston.
Here’s a rundown of all the controversial opinions Beasley has shared about vaccines via statements and his personal Twitter account.

Cole Beasley vaccine comments
May 13, 2021: Beasley first tweets about being unvaccinated and also tweets out a couple of basic questions about being vaccinated.
Until we all share the same opinion or belief we are considered ignorant. I don’t understand. You feel how you feel and I respect that. It doesn’t always make me wrong or a bad person cause I don’t agree with you.
— Cole Beasley (@Bease11) May 13, 2021
If you get vaccinated you are good? So if I don’t i shouldn’t pass it on to you regardless, right?
— Cole Beasley (@Bease11) May 13, 2021
That’s a serious question. I don’t really know how these things work I’m not a doctor.
— Cole Beasley (@Bease11) May 13, 2021
May 14, 2021: Beasley explains that he isn’t an “anti-vaxxer” in a series of tweets. He also laments that people are “divided about everything” and tells people to think for themselves.
I don’t have a problem with anybody getting the vaccine. That is YOUR choice. My problem is everyone is ridiculing and bullying people on here into getting one or thinking the same way about it. It’s becoming that way with any issue. This is not ok.
— Cole Beasley (@Bease11) May 14, 2021
You’re cornering and bullying people to think the way you do. That is not American and not being “mindful” as everyone is so quick to tell me. I’m not an “antivaxxer” as so many people are saying. Although that is nobody’s business that is just not true.
— Cole Beasley (@Bease11) May 14, 2021
I’m not a politician nor do I want to be involved in anything political but for some reason that is what the world is coming to. Please try to let people think for themselves. I know that’s hard for everyone. But I’m case you haven’t noticed the world is going to shit.
— Cole Beasley (@Bease11) May 14, 2021
Not even just race. We are becoming divided about everything. This is the end of it. I’m done speaking on it. Y’all do what y’all want and I’m gonna do what I want. Do what you think is right personally. Don’t feel like you have to go with the “trend”. Have a mind of your own.

June 16, 2021: The NFL and NFLPA agree to updated COVID protocols for training camp and the preseason. The league’s new policy outlines strict differences between what vaccinated and unvaccinated players are able to do while in the team facility and on the road.

NFL TRADE GRADES: Patriots-Panthers Stephon Gilmore swap
June 17, 2021: Beasley goes on a tirade against the NFL Players Association. He calls the NFLPA “a joke” and makes statistical comparisons between the chances of him have a 10-year NFL career and getting COVID.
This is crazy. Did we vote on this? I stay in the hotel. We still have meetings. We will all be together. Vaccinated players can go out the hotel and bring covid back in to where I am. So what does it matter if I stay in the hotel now? 100 percent immune with vaccination? No. https://t.co/g61WM8zAOh
— Cole Beasley (@Bease11) June 17, 2021
The players association is a joke. Call it something different. It’s not for the players. Everyone gives me the 98 percent of people who are vaccinated don’t get covid again. The odds of me getting in the NFL and playing for 10 years are lower than that and I’m here.
— Cole Beasley (@Bease11) June 17, 2021
So what are we really talking about? I understand completely why the NFL is doing this. It gives them back the freedom to make the most money as possible again if everyone is vaccinated. But will anyone fight for the players or nah?
— Cole Beasley (@Bease11) June 17, 2021
That’s all…I don’t know who I need to talk to but someone has to get it right. That’s why I’m on here. Hopefully the right people will see it and at least think about how all this NFLPA stuff works. It needs to be changed.
— Cole Beasley (@Bease11) June 17, 2021
June 18, 2021: Hours after confirming that he had spoken to the NFLPA about the COVID guideline changes, Beasley releases a “public service announcement” on Twitter and explains that he is not planning on getting vaccinated.
“I may die of COVID, but I’d rather die actually living,” Beasley wrote. “My way of living and my values are more important to me than a dollar.”
June 28, 2021: Beasley makes an in-person statement at Bills training camp. He claims that information is being withheld from players as they make decisions about getting vaccinated.
I’m not anti or pro vax. I’m pro choice. With that being said, the issue at-hand is information is being withheld from players in order for a player to be swayed in a direction he may not be comfortable with. When dealing with a player’s health and safety, there should be complete transparency regarding information that is vital in the decision-making process. WIthout having all the proper information, a player can feel misguided and unsure about a very personal choice, makes a player feel unprotected and gives concerns about future topics regarding health and our ability to make educated decisions.
With regard to our overall safety, we have to know we are armed with full knowledge and understanding that those who are in position to help us will always do that based on our individual situation. Some people may think that I’m being selfish and making this a “me” thing. It is all about the young players who don’t have a voice and are reaching out to me every day because they are being told if they don’t get vaxxed, they’ll be cut. Agents are being told by teams that if they have unvaccinated guys, they will not be given the opportunity as of now to be seen in workouts. So once unvaxxed players get cut, they’re losing a dream they have worked their whole lives for over a vaccine that is proven to not keep people from contracting COVID as we’ve seen. Every doctor I’ve gone to with questions begins every sentence with, ‘From what we know now,’ which tells me we don’t know enough. The NFLPA is working to have vaccinated players tested more frequently than what the NFL initially stated. A lot of players got the vaccination with the idea that these rules were already set in stone and they’re not. It is common sense that if a vaxxed or unvaxxed player’s tested less frequently, the likelihood of a player being pulled for COVID drops dramatically.
In regard to player safety, I will conclude by saying we all want to be safe. For so many players around the NFL, safety does not solely mean avoiding the COVID virus. Our health is the now and years beyond which we are trying to protect with our personal choice by doing all the things we did in our protocols during the very successful 2020 NFL season.
IYER: If Jaguars move on from Urban Meyer, who could they hire?
July 19, 2021: Beasley continues to rail against the NFL’s rules and claims that they were made because the NFL wants to encourage more players to get the vaccine.
That’s all I’ve been saying. I’m not pushing anyone to do anything. Do what you want. Im testing every day. Once my test comes back negative my day will be just like those who are vaxxed. No restrictions. Rules are literally just to push everyone to do what they want them to. https://t.co/rL0dcCWIB7

August 24, 2021: A Bills trainer tests positive for COVID, and Beasley, along with fellow Bills receivers Gabriel Davis and Isaiah McKenzie, are ruled close contacts. They are unvaccinated at the time and have to stay away from the facility for five days even if they test negative for the virus.
August 26, 2021: Beasley rips the NFL’s COVID protocols once again while absent from the Bills’ facility, and is particularly critical of masks with his comments.
Don’t worry they got me too. But I was wearing a mask when I was in close contact with fully vaxxed trainer who tested positive and still got sent home. So what’s the point of the mask anyways? Meanwhile I’m here still testing negative and can’t come back. Make it make sense. https://t.co/VGzoy0ljb4
— Cole Beasley (@Bease11) August 26, 2021
Beasley also explains that he will continue to fight for unvaccinated players rights — as long as he isn’t forced to retire.
Im gonna exhaust all options before retiring and try to change as much as I can for the other unvaccinated players. They are not protected at all. They have to protect themselves from the vaccinated players and staff. Which is almost impossible since they’re tested 1/14 days.
— Cole Beasley (@Bease11) August 26, 2021
September 14, 2021: Beasley offers to buy road tickets for a fan who was unable to attend a Bills game because he is unvaccinated.
If you find an away game you are able to go to then I will buy the tickets for you guys. DM me names and every thing snd I’ll figure out the best way to make it happen. Wish she could witness the mafia! https://t.co/LfBdULPcmK

October 3, 2021: Beasley is booed during the Bills’ Week 4 contest against the Texans, Buffalo’s third home game of the sesaon.
NFL WEEK 5 PICKS: Against the spread | Straight up
October 4, 2021: Beasley calls out the Bills fans for booing him on Twitter. He also beefs with Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, who criticizes the logic of Beasley’s decision to remain unvaccinated.
Only place I get boo’d is at our home stadium. Then some of the same people want me to take pictures and sign autographs. I thought bills fans were the best in the world? Where’d they go? If the vaccine works then why do vaxxed people need to be protected from unvaxxed? #letemin
— Cole Beasley (@Bease11) October 4, 2021
Bease, the problem isn’t so much your choice as it is your logic. You know the rules that apply to your choice, and that is yours to make. But the examples you give as the basis for why you make your choice are questionable. https://t.co/IGJlJ8Mw1Y
— Mark Cuban (@mcuban) October 4, 2021
I didn’t get it cause I do not need it. What other explanation do you need? The fact that I need to explain any reason for my own choice is the problem. That’s the whole point. The risks are not the same for everyone. https://t.co/rkdD6mqhqP
— Cole Beasley (@Bease11) October 4, 2021
So it is 100% your decision to make, just as it is 100% the decision of business owners to determine how they want to access the risks Covid brings to their businesses and set the guidelines they think work best.
— Mark Cuban (@mcuban) October 4, 2021
Yea I get that a business will do whatever to protect the money. But like you said, I wish they would just call it that instead of pretending it’s for safety. Then maybe the narrative that unvaxxed are selfish assholes will go away and we can be United again instead of divided. https://t.co/eIeIkDRR2s
