Cold Weather Payment rules
When utilising the Cold Weather Payment tool, users will simply need to enter the first part of their postcode. When this is done, the tool will display the number of Cold Weather Payments due in this area from the beginning of the month up to the current date.
Where Cold Weather Payments are triggered, eligible recipients will receive £25 for each seven day period of very cold weather between now and March 31, 2022. Following each period of very cold weather, claimants should get a payment within 14 working days.
To be eligible for the support, recipients must also be getting other state benefits. This includes Pension Credit, Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, income-related Employment and Support Allowance, Universal Credit or Support for Mortgage Interest.
Additionally, claimants may also have to be living with a disability or be caring for a child to qualify. In most instances, eligible recipients do not need to take action to claim Cold Weather Payments, they should be issued automatically.
If a person does not get a payment but feels they should have received it, they will need to contact the Pension Service or Jobcentre Plus for help.
