Clare Balding warns John McEnroe live on BBC after rude Wimbledon comment

Clare Balding had to remind John McEnroe that he was working for the BBC at Wimbledon after making a comment about swingers during Monday’s coverage. McEnroe’s fellow pundits couldn’t help but crack up in laughter after he dropped the X-rated joke at SW19.

Ons Jabeur and Petra Kvitova made their way onto Centre Court as Balding, McEnroe, Tim Henman, and Tracy Austin discussed Monday’s events.

And Balding analysed Jabeur’s behaviour as she prepared for the fourth-round clash, mentioning: “Ons Jabeur is looking up at the sky above, wondering if it’s going to rain.

“I think the answer is no. But it is overcast. It’s one of those days that would see a bit of swing on the ball in cricket.”

Henman, joining McEnroe and Austin as pundits, responded with another cricket reference: “Yep, definitely. Good conditions for the seamers!”

And McEnroe couldn’t help but throw in some input on the brief cricket chat, claiming Americans had a different definition of what swingers are.

McEnroe added: “Are the swingers the ones who don’t throw it as hard? Is that what swingers are? We have different definitions in the States!”

Austin couldn’t contain her laughter as Balding quickly regained control of the conversation to jokingly warn McEnroe about his antics.

“We’re talking about something completely different, John! It’s not a channel for that sort of talk,” Balding noted.

McEnroe was on form on BBC’s Monday coverage, calling out Henman on his 1995 Wimbledon disqualification for accidentally hitting a ball girl just moments before rubbing Balding the wrong way.

Jabeur impressively cruised past Kvitova, winning 6-0 6-3 to set up an eye-catching quarter-final against reigning champion Elena Rybakina.

The Tunisian will be out for vengeance in a mouth-watering rematch of last year’s Wimbledon final, which Rybakina edged 3-6 6-2 6-2.

Earlier on Monday, Madison Keys defeated 16-year-old Russian Mirra Andreeva to book a date with Aryna Sabalenka, who defeated Ekaterina Alexandrova in straight sets.

On the other side of the draw, No 1 seed Iga Swiatek will meet Elina Svitolina, and Jessica Pegula will face Marketa Vondrousova.
