Chris Sutton believes Roy Keane was ‘being kind’ when he said five or six Manchester United players should never play for the club again, instead believing 10 should be ditched.

Keane was thoroughly unimpressed by his former side as they were comfortably beaten 4-1 by Manchester City on Sunday. Not for their lack of quality, but for not showing nearly enough effort in the second half of the match.

The Irishman said the Red Devils team ‘gave up’ and half the team should be dropped as soon as possible.

‘I could write down five or six players who I think should never play for Man United again. Just shameful, shameful,’ Keane told Sky Sports.

‘Subs coming on and you hope they’re going to have an impact but they’re not prepared to run around. A couple of lads in midfield, Wan-Bissaka, Fred, Maguire, Rashford came on, I could go on.

‘The old saying of men vs boys. They gave up and shame on them.’

Sutton was happy to go further, writing in the Daily Mail: ‘I might be the first person to ever utter these words but here goes: Roy Keane was kind. He said “five or six” should never play for Manchester United again. I’d say that’s modest.’

Sutton went on to name the 10 United players that he would ‘bin’ as: Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Alex Telles, Fred, Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani.

Some of the former Blackburn, Chelsea and Celtic striker’s decisions were more controversial than others, saying of the choice to scrap Rashford: ‘Reports have suggested he wants out. If that’s the case, off you pop.

‘If Rashford is looking for someone to blame for his United career going downhill then he should look at himself.’

On Maguire he added: ‘Maguire’s £80m move to United hasn’t worked out. He’s not the Virgil van Dijk they hoped he was.’
