Chris Bassitt escaped major injury on Tuesday.

During the night’s Athletics-White Sox matchup, the A’s pitcher was nailed in the head with a comebacker, and was promptly carted off the field.

On Wednesday morning, the A’s announced that He received several stiches for cuts where the baseball hit him, but thankfully he seems to have missed major damage to his eye.

Bassitt was seen bleeding profusely after the hit.

The A’s announced on Wednesday that Bassitt would undergo surgery to repair facial fractures sustained by the line drive.

Shortly after the incident, the A’s reported that Bassitt was conscious and aware, but would be sent to the local medical facility for further evaluation.

Athletics manager Bob Melvin said that the injury should not affect his eye. He received several stitches and the team will know more about any potential fractures on Wednesday.

Bassitt was on the mound for several minutes after the hit, but was able to move his extremities and was moved onto a cart seat upon exiting the game.
