Chandigarh College of Architecture will prepare design of Saraswati riverfront – Times of India
Dhuman said this the responsibility of preparing the design for the Saraswati riverfront has been entrusted by the HSHDB to the Chandigarh College of Architecture (CCA) which is affiliated with the Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh.
The team of this college has also inspected the Pipli Saraswati channel site on Wednesday.
Dhuman said after the design of this riverfront is readied by the CCA team it will submit a report to HSHDB and the work of the project will be started at a fast pace.
HSHDB Dhuman Singh Kirmach team members of CCA including assistant professors Garima, Ghanshyam, and Vijay, district forest officer Ravinder Dhankhar, irrigation department SDO Jitendra inspected the Pipli Saraswati channel site.
CCA assistant professor Vijay said, “Three architects and a photographer visited different sites of Saraswati river channel in Pipli and we have surveyed the channel thoroughly. Our team has understood the plans of HSHDB and accordingly, we will submit a proposal for its approval and finally submit the design of the project to develop it as a tourist destination.”
Dhuman gave detailed information about how this site is to be developed as riverfront and what is the government’s plan.
Dhuman Singh said, “HSHDB has prepared a plan to develop Pipli, the entrance of Kurukshetra as a tourism destination. Under this plan, the Pipli Saraswati channel will be developed as a tourist destination, at the same place from where the holy Saraswati river used to flow thousands of years ago. This site is to be developed as a riverfront. The plan has been prepared and its budget has also been decided by the government. Recently, Haryana tourism minister Kanwar Pal also inspected this place and got information about the project.”
To a query about the budget approved by the government for this project, Dhuman Singh said, “The governing body of HSHDB under the leadership of Haryana chief minister (CM) Manohar Lal Khattar has decided to complete this project at Pipli in three phases. For the first phase, the CM has approved a budget of Rs 3 crore and further will be decided once the first phase work is completed. We are planning to develop Saraswati riverfront in such a manner that the tourist including the religious coming from the Delhi side that visits Amritsar in Punjab also visits Kurukshetra in Haryana.”
Dhuman said that the Saraswati channel has been completely cleaned before the monsoon season by the HSHDB.
“Since last two days, the rainwater is running smoothly in Saraswati channel. The officials of the irrigation department have also been ordered to keep a constant watch on the Saraswati channel so that people do not have to face trouble after heavy rain. Necessary directions have also been given to the officials for continuous cleaning of this Saraswati channel, so that even during the rainy season, if there is any blockage in the drainage of water in the channel, then it will be removed immediately”, said Dhuman.
