Carol hosted the Pride of Britain Awards 2021 over the weekend, stunning many with her striking red ensemble. Inspiring stories of people from up and down the country were told, with awards given to those who have made an impact on the lives of others. While the ceremony itself took place on Saturday, Britons can catch it on television on ITV Hub.
Carol has hosted the Pride of Britain Awards since the very beginning, when it launched in 1999.
Back then, it wasn’t televised, and was held at the Dorchester Hotel in London.
This year, Carol was joined by dancer Ashely Banjo.
Celebrities and public figures including Prince Charles, Ant and Dec, Anne-Marie, Ed Sheeran, Pixie Lott, KSI, Harry Kane, Joanna Lumley, Stephen Fry, Westlife, Jordan Pickford and Sharon Stone were among a number of stars who saluted the nation’s incredible unsung heroes.
While Carol has become known for her role as the awards’ presenter, a string of other TV appearances have firmly placed her at the helm of UK popular culture.
She starred on the quiz show Countdown as a co-host for 26 years before leaving the post in 2008, continuing in her role as a newspaper columnist and nominal author of educational and diet books.
It is during this time as a media personality that the country became familiar with Carol’s often brash and no-nonsense style and sense of humour.
This was evident in 2018 after she had been cycling through Bristol and spotted a familiar name on the back of a van.
Unable to resist, Carol posted a photograph of the van which had the name “D.Cameron plastering” across its back doors.

One user replied: “Well nothing he does will be either straightforward, on time or within budget then!”
Another said: “Might be getting short of cash?”
A third added: “Yes and his boss isn’t happy with his work either.”
Shortly before sharing the snap, Carol had posted a photo of herself standing in front of Clifton Suspension Bridge, explaining that she was enjoying a cycle around the city.
Meanwhile, guests were treated to a star-studded evening for the Pride of Britain Awards at Grosvenor House in London’s Park Lane.
It comes after last year’s event was held remotely, with awards being delivered to winners across the country.
This year’s winners included Rosemary Cox, 82, from Wolverhampton who was given the Lifetime Achievement for setting up the first Organ Donor Register in the UK.
Elsewhere, Rob Allen, 34, from Northampton won the Special Recognition award.
He founded Sands United, where men who have lost babies and young children can support one another through football.
Special Recognition was also given to the Oxford Vaccine Team who were behind the COVID-19 vaccine.
Many others made up the long list of winners, with the stories behind each person revealed tonight.
