Carol Kirkwood says she’s not rushing to get married as BBC Breakfast host talks kids

Carol Kirkwood is set to walk down the aisle for a second time after she revealed her fiancé proposed to her. The BBC Breakfast presenter, 60, surprised fans when she got engaged to her man Steve a week before her birthday at the end of May.

But the broadcaster has revealed fans won’t be hearing wedding bells anytime soon as she admitted the couple is not in a rush to tie the knot.

She became engaged in May to a mystery man known only as Steve – having split from her husband Jimmy Kirkwood, a former hockey player, in 2008 after 18 years.

But Carol has so far not named a wedding day, adding the couple does not feel any “pressure” to make it official.

Speaking in a new interview, the BBC weather presenter admitted it’s no issue and the pair have no plans on having children.

Carol said: “We’re not galloping towards it. It’s nice, as the first time I got married I was young.

“You get engaged, and you’re involved in the wedding almost from then. This time there is no pressure – it’s not like we’re going to rush off and have children.

“It’s nice to enjoy it and do it at our own pace.”

Speaking about her partner, she gushed: “He’s funny, he makes me laugh, he’s very kind and caring and he’s romantic.

She assumed something was wrong as Steve was moving around so much.

The weather reporter told Hello! magazine: “It was a lovely, sunny day and we had taken a picnic with us, and we were sitting by the river, watching the boats going by.”

“I turned to say: ‘What’s wrong?’ He was on his knee, and he proposed. At first, I thought he was joking, but he said: ‘No no, I really do mean it, Will you marry me?’ I said: ‘Yes!! Of course!”

The weather presenter also revealed it was Steve who chose the special ring, otherwise known as a “halo ring”.
