Carnage’s New Plan Could Make Him More Dangerous Than Ever

Marvel’s deadliest symbiote returns in Extreme Carnage Alpha with a new goal that could make the monster into an even bigger threat.

WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Extreme Carnage Alpha by Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Manuel Garcia, Cam Smith, Marc Deering, Roberto Poggi, Guru-eFX, and VC’s Travis Lanham, on sale now.

The world has been left shaken by the events of King in Black, with Knull’s invasion having stoked fear and hatred for symbiotes among humanity. However, wherever there is a tragedy there are those looking to exploit it, and prominent figures have already begun capitalizing on the growing anti-alien sentiment. Worst of all of these antagonists is Carnage, who has bigger plans in store for the world than anything he has ever done before.

Carnage only recently dragged himself up from the watery depths where he was left for dead by the new King in Black, but he has already began his ascent up the food chain. Not only has he risen from a mass of grisly tendrils through a series of aquatic hosts before making his way back to dry land, but as Tony Stark explains to Flash Thompson, Carnage has been worming his way towards ever bigger fish. Specifically, Tony is concerned about Senator Kane, who has decided to turn in his own presidential bid on a platform of ridding Earth of all non-human inhabitants. When Flash goes to keep an eye on the Senator at Tony’s behest, he realizes soon enough that things are already worse than he could have ever imagined as Carnage has already formed his own army of disenfranchised symbiotes.

During Kane’s rally, Flash is surrounded by malicious symbiotes all yearning to tear him to pieces, and Senator Kane may be host to the worst of them all. This wouldn’t be the first time that Carnage has tried to carve out a slice of Americana for himself, as he very nearly did just that back in 2012’s Carnage, U.S.A. by Zeb Wells and Clayton Crain, which saw the titular villain launch a citywide takeover of Doverton, Colorado. After claiming almost all of the town’s residents as his own, Carnage even managed to bond to several Avengers before he was ultimately defeated.

The damage that Cletus Kasady was able to do to Doverton was massive, making the prospect of him reaching the highest office of the United States an even more terrifying threat. The fact that Carnage is playing both sides of the field only makes that possibility greater, or at the very least puts him in a position to divide the general populace as it best suits him.

While there is no way of knowing exactly what Carnage has in mind, there is no doubt that it ends in death and destruction. Assuming that Flash is right and that Carnage has already bonded to Senator Kane, he now has access to more resources than ever, not to mention the devotion of thousands and thousands of supporters who are all chomping at the bit to do something about the perceived alien threat.

If Flash can’t figure out how to root Carnage out of his most recent hiding place soon, he could very well be staring down two very different armies, both doing the bidding of the same twisted master.
