Camping can be an all-weather activity, especially if campers are prepared. Britons haven’t packed up their tents for the year and are braving the rain this autumn.
Christine Routley had a system: “Get a good set of waterproofs, make sure the tent is the last thing that gets packed so you can get it out first.
“Park car as close to tent as possible.
“Have a towel and dry set of clothes to put on once you’re done.”
Phil Moore said: “Pack car in order you need everything.”
For setting up, tarp was found to be helpful.

Andrew Buss said: “The last thing I pack into the car is a tarp. I use it to put everything on top that needs to be out the way to get the tent out then fold it over the kit to keep the rain off.”
Kevin Wesley said: “Putting up in the rain I use a tarp.
“Put tarp up first then erect the tent and then leave the tarp up until I move on.”
Andy Thompson wrote: “I got a 5×5 DD tarp. Covers my tent spot on. Tent stays dry and I hang tarp up when I get home.”
George Inalianable said: “Peg your carpet down first. Put awning on carpet and go from there.”
Kevin Pike said: “I peg a few corners to prevent blowing away and being like Mary Poppins, thread poles in, then gradually erect. You should be able to work inside once outer part is up.”
Britons also had tips for packing up in the rain.
Theresa Porter said: “Don’t put your tent away when it’s raining. Wait until the sun comes out before you fold it up or when you get home hang on the line.”
And Max Terri Brown wrote: “Pull car as close to tent as you can and put stuff in. Try to wait for a break or just fold as good as you can and dry when you get home.
“It’s not fun putting tents down in the rain but you just need to go for it.”
Tips also came in for what to wear when setting up in the rain.
Della Williams had a warning: “Dry clothes on front seat along with the car keys. I have packed them away in the tent before. Get changed the very last thing!”
Dominic Winterburn said: “Tee shirt and shorts and flip flops. Skin’s waterproof. You can get the tent up with minimal clothes getting wet.”
And Sally Grover agreed: “Shorts, t shirt, a waterproof and flip flops. Skin is easy to dry with a towel- wet shoes and trousers are just miserable.”
Richard Mckelvey had a handy tip: “I wear a poncho if it rains which covers my backpack then when I got to set up my tent I just tie the four corners and have a nice dry area to pitch under.”
