Bride receives ‘ingenious’ advice for fooling ‘copycat’ sister-in-law

Any bride will know the hours spent poring over every tiny detail of their big day.

From the colour scheme, to the flowers, to exactly what canapés should be served and when.

So it’s perhaps no surprise that one bride was left rather annoyed when she noticed her sister-in-law was using her wedding as ‘inspiration’ for her own.

Taking to Mumsnet, the bride wrote: ‘My brother and sister-in-law have recently really annoyed me.

‘We had previously discussed wedding stuff. My style is very alternative whereas hers isn’t, so I thought I was safe.

‘Turns out she bought the same shoes and a similar style dress. I was so upset.’

But that wasn’t all. The woman continued: ‘To top it all off she asked where I got my bridesmaid dresses from, and promised not to get the same as me if I told her.

‘[I told her where they were from and] told her we had a particular style, so not to get [the same].

‘She apologised and said, “Oh so sorry just bought that.”

‘Her colour theme changed to a colour very similar to mine (nothing like she previously decided).’

More shockingly, this isn’t the only instance of the sister-in-law being a copy cat.

She also decorated her house in the same style, and named her baby after her in-law’s recently departed dog. The poster added: ‘They were miraculously one week pregnant (didn’t even think that was possible) on the birth of my baby.’ 

Asking for opinions on Mumsnet, other users jumped to the poster’s defence.

‘They sound f**king insane,’ wrote one commenter. ‘I would never tell them anything anymore – speak to them when you have to – but absolutely have to. Other than that – zero.’

Others agreed. ‘I’d go low contact, they sound crazy.’

And some had some interesting tactics to avoid any further copying. ‘If they ask you anything tell them lies or something outrageous so anything they copy doesn’t bother you.’

‘When they ask you where you get something, lie,’ another wrote. ‘When they want to see photos of something, send them the wrong thing.’
