Brenda Edwards reduces Britain Get Singing panel to tears with song for Jamal

There was not a dry eye in the house after the Loose Women performed on Britain Get Singing.

Brenda Edwards, Coleen Nolan, Denise Welch, Judi Love, Linda Robson and Kelle Bryan took to the stage to sing Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon & Garfunkel, competing against stars from Love Island, The Chase, Coronation Street, and Emmerdale.

Ahead of the performance, Brenda dedicated the moment to her late son Jamal, who died earlier this year at the age of 31.

‘My son passed away earlier this year so, at the moment, everything is a trigger,’ she said after breaking down during rehearsals.

‘We’ve all got a close bond with Brenda, especially as she’s been through such a rough time,’ Linda told cameras.

‘To lose a son is the worst thing that can happen to anybody,’ added Denise.

Before walking out in front of the audience, Brenda declared: ‘I’m doing this in honour and in memory of my son Jamal. Music seems to help me if I’m feeling down.

‘I have had a rough year and talking to the ladies is very comforting.

‘I am really grateful that I have them around me so it’s an honour to be singing with them.’

After belting out the final note of the classic tune, Brenda and co. had the judges – Alesha Dixon, Adam Lambert, Jason Manford, and will.i.am – in tears.

Britain’s Got Talent panelist Alesha said she was actually unable to see, as her eyes were filled with tears.

‘I can barely see cos I’ve got tears in my eyes and my heart is pounding out of my chest because I loved that so much,’ she said. ‘I really loved that on so many levels. I love each and every one of you and what you represent.’

Alesha described Brenda’s vocals as ‘beautiful,’ while Will continued: ‘That was perfect. Because it hit all the right emotional notes. You guys bonded as a family on stage and it was beautiful.’

Comedian Jason commented: ‘Absolutely fantastic with everything that you’ve gone through this year, to get up there tonight in the name of entertainment and for this wonderful cause, it was one of the most selfless things I’ve ever witnessed.’

Queen frontman Adam told her: ‘Brenda, thank you for showing us your vulnerability, and also your strength.’

When asked by host Roman Kemp what the performance meant to her, a very emotional Brenda replied: ‘As my son would say, I just wanted to bring some self-belief and I’m just glad that the ladies were here to share it with me.’

The group went on to triumph in the Christmas special, in aid of Britain Get Talking, winning the most votes, as well as the hearts of viewers watching at home.

One tweeted: ‘Have to hand it to the loose women they sound absolutely stunning especially @brenda_edwards – stunning, brave, powerful, inspirational.’

‘Brenda is giving me goosebumps. What a voice! Incredible’, tweeted another.

Denise also took to Twitter to thank fans for their support, writing: ‘Thank you so much for the lovely comments. We had such an amazing time and found the whole experience so emotional. Especially because our amazing friend and what she’s been through this year’.
