BREAKING: Trams suspended on Metrolink lines as emergency repairs take place
Widespread disruption is taking place on Greater Manchester’s tram lines this morning as emergency repair works take place. Metrolink services are currently cancelled on the Bury line, with services suspended along the entire route.
Meanwhile, services on the Rochdale line are not running into the city centre. Trams are only currently running between the Rochdale Town Centre and Monsall stops.
Metrolink says the problem is due to damage on the overhead line near to the Irk Valley, in north Manchester. Images released by the tram operator show emergency repairs taking place this morning (May 6).

The issue also means that trams are not currently stopping at Victoria station as normal. Services on the East Didsbury line are running to Exchange Square.
Trams on the Manchester Airport line are diverting and terminating at Exchange Square, rather than stopping at Market Street, Shudehill and Victoria. Metrolink says its tram tickets are being accepted on a number of local bus services where trams are being affected.
For passengers who would use the Bury line, tickets are being accepted on the 41, 59, 98, 98, 135 and 524 buses. On the Rochdale line, Metrolink tickets are valid on the 59, 81, 83, 183 and 184 bus services.
It is not currently known when the work will be complete and trams will be back running to a full service. Transport for Greater Manchester has been approached for comment.
