Shane Lynch, 46, has looked back on his incredible career, which spans three decades, as he confessed it is time to “bow out”. The Boyzone star announced his intention to quit showbusiness in a new interview, explaining that he must now “bow out” in order to enjoy “peace and tranquility”.
His latest venture saw him join six other celebrities trekking through Portugal in a new series of Pilgrimage.
However, Shane said the programme represented his “sayonara to television for ever” as he prepares to do “a 180 out of all that”.
Asked whether taking part in Pilgrimage was what led him to his decision, Shane revealed it “sealed the deal”.
He added: “No, don’t get me wrong: the people, the crew, the walk were all brilliant.
“It’s just the process of making television: the stop-start, the cameras, the fireworks.
“I’ve played to 100,000 people multiple times, and I don’t need any more fireworks.”
The former pop star revealed in the latest issue of Radio Times: “I need peace and tranquillity and to bow out.”
Shane started his career in 1993 after music manager Louis Walsh, who had managed Johnny Logan, held auditions in Dublin to find a new boy band.
Shane was successful and with four other Irish teenagers, including Ronan Keating and Stephen Gately, who tragically died in 2009, went on to have a string of hits.
The popular band reunited in 2007 to go on a 29-date reunion tour, and released their comeback single in September 2008, Love You Anyway.
Later that year, they released a greatest hits album entitled Back Again… No Matter What.
In 2004, during a break from Boyzone, Shane appeared on TV as an actor, playing Eli Knox the chairman of Harchester United in the Sky One football drama, Dream Team.
He went on to appear in pantomime and in 2016 he starred as Abanazer in the Blue Genie production of Aladdin at The Whitley Bay Playhouse.
The latest issue of Radio Times magazine is now available to purchase.
