Blizzard President on Diablo 4 coming to Xbox Game Pass: “Not happening”

No free ride to Sanctuary

Blizzard President Mike Ybarra took to Twitter to squash a rumor that Diablo 4 was coming to Game Pass. In a tweet that has since been deleted, an ad from Brazilian gift card retailer PICPAY indicated Diablo 4 was on Xbox Game Pass.

“Available now. Get it now or play it through Xbox Game Pass” the advertisement allegedly read. Ybarra didn’t mince words when responding to the claim, stating “This is not happening.”

This isn’t the first time Blizzard has addressed the possibility of Diablo 4 on Xbox Game Pass. Back in May, Executive Producer Rod Fergusson tweeted “We’ve been getting some questions about D4 on Game Pass and I want to let you know we have no plans for that.” Although it seems like a popular request for the action-RPG to be part of the membership, it doesn’t appear that will happen any time soon.

Maybe other Blizzard games will hit Game Pass

I know it’s hard to even imagine Diablo 4 on Xbox Game Pass. But with recent legal developments, it may not be a strange thought for long. After all, Bethesda’s first brand new IP in a long time, Starfield, will launch on Game Pass day 1.

We may see not-so-new Blizzard titles eventually make their way to the pass. Perhaps even the older iterations of Diablo like Diablo III. We’ll have to see which Blizzard IP finds its way to the subscription service first.

For now, though, it looks like Diablo 4 will continue to have a full-price barrier to entry. Who knows, maybe we’ll get some sort of discount when Season 1 of Diablo 4 releases on July 20.
