Bgmi: BGMI gets three months ‘lifeline’ for now: Three key things to know – Times of India
Krafron has thanked the Indian government for the permission to make a comeback. “We are excited to announce that Battlegrounds Mobile India will be available for download soon and we cannot wait to welcome you back to our platform. We are committed to delivering exceptional products and services to our users in India and beyond, and we look forward to continuing our journey with you,” said Sean Hyunil Sohn, chief executive of Krafton India, in a statement.
3 months lifeline
For now, the prohibition on the game has been lifted for 90 days, following which the government is expected to review whether it is compliant with Indian laws and decide if the ban should be lifted permanently or reinstated again. “This is a 3 month trial approval of #BGMI aftr it has complied with issues of server locations n data security etc. We will keep a close watch on other issues of User harm, Addiction etc in the next 3 months before a final decision is taken,” tweeted union minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar.
Krafton thanks Indian government
“We would like to express our deep appreciation to the Indian authorities for permitting us to restart the operations of BGMI. Krafton Inc, as a responsible South Korean company that abides by the law, has put in place several measures to ensure compliance with all Indian laws,” the company said. “We believe in investing in the Indian gaming industry and contributing to building a vibrant ecosystem that fosters growth and innovation. To achieve our mission, we aim to augment technology developments in India by collaborating with local developers and promoting the use of cutting-edge technologies,” it added.
‘Emerged’ from PUBG ban
Krafton launched BGMI on July 2, 2021, for Android devices and on August 18 of that year for Apple iOS devices. BGMI’s earlier version, PlayerUnknown’s Battleground (PUBG), was banned by the government in 2020 along with 117 other apps with Chinese links. Post the ban on PUBG in 2020, the South Korean company cut ties with China’s Tencent group and launched BGMI in India. BGMI proved to be a runaway success in India. Just days before the ban in July 2022, BGMI had surpassed 100 million registered users in the country.
