Beyerdynamic releases new suite of creator headphones and microphones

TL;DR

  • Beyerdynamic released two new studio headsets and microphones for creators.
  • The Beyerdynamic DT 700 Pro X closed-back headphones are for studio and on-the-go use.
  • The DT 700 Pro X, DT 900 Pro X, M 70 Pro X, and M 90 Pro X headphones and microphones are all available today.

Beyerdynamic announced two new headphones and microphones for modern creators. The Beyerdynamic DT 700 Pro X and DT 900 Pro X studio over-ear headphones share similar builds, but the latter has an open-back design and is solely for studio use. The M 70 Pro X dynamic microphone suits a variety of uses, while the M 90 Pro X condenser microphone is for more professional purposes.

Beyerdynamic’s latest studio headphones both feature proprietary “Stellar.45” drivers and a 5-40,000Hz frequency response. Previous Beyerdynamic studio headphones like the DT 770 Pro and DT 880 Pro have neutral-leaning sound profiles that accurately reproduce bass and mid-range notes. We can expect a similar sound from these latest releases. Neither headset produces much distortion, but the DT 900 Pro X has slightly greater total harmonic distortion (THD) measurements than the 700 Pro X at 100Hz (0.80% and 0.40%, respectively).

Both the DT 700 Pro X and DT 900 Pro X have a low 48Ω impedance, making them easy to power straight from a laptop. They share identical spring steel headband architecture and plush removable ear pads for all-day comfort. The three-pin mini XLR cable is replaceable too, which extends the overall lifetime of each pair of headphones. The company also provides two cables (3-meter straight, 1.8-meter coiled), a 1/4-inch adapter, and a protective pouch with either studio headset.

Creators who want a pair of headphones solely for studio use will be more drawn to the DT 900 Pro X for their open-back construction. Unlike the closed-back DT 700 Pro X, the DT 900 Pro X can create a more expansive sense of three-dimensional space, what some may refer to as a headset’s soundstage. Audio engineers who travel between projects will be more drawn to the DT 700 Pro X as they can be used in sub-optimal environments without issue.

With our limited ability to travel to and from work, microphones are more prevalent than ever. The M 70 Pro X and M 90 Pro X both serve the contemporary creator. Broadcasters and streamers will appreciate the M 70 Pro X for its versatile dynamic transducer and forgiving cardioid polar pattern. This microphone is more oriented towards vocal recordings and has a frequency response of 25-18,000Hz. Unlike the M 90 Pro X, you don’t need to supply phantom power to the M 70 Pro X. It also places much more emphasis on bass notes particularly from 100-400Hz compared to the pricier M 90 Pro X.

Creators who spring for the slightly more expensive M 90 Pro X will appreciate this microphone’s high-quality condenser. This, too, has a cardioid polar pattern and can record vocals and instruments, making it a great option for studio musicians and podcasters. The M 90 Pro X is well suited for acoustic guitar, piano, string instruments, and ambient miking. Beyerdynamic provides an elastic microphone suspension holder, gooseneck pop-filter, and a carrying bag with either mic, along with an XLR cable.
