Betty Davis, pioneering funk singer and ex-wife of jazz musician Miles Davis, has passed away aged 76. Her death was confirmed to Rolling Stone today by by Danielle Maggio, a close friend of Betty’s.
A cause of death has not yet been disclosed.
The news of Betty’s death has led to an outpouring of grief from fans around the world on social media.
Many took to Twitter to pay tribute to the iconic star as they remembered her legacy.

Betty, née Mabry, was born on July 26, 1945 in Durham, North Carolina.
Her first single, The Cellar, was titled after her favorite nightclub and produced by soul singer and songwriter Lou Courtney.
She married Miles Davis in 1968, but the pair divorced 1969.
Betty went on to make her solo debut with her eponymous album in 1973.
The trailblazing artist was known for the sensual nature of her live performances, which were often met with boycott attempts.
Betty retired from music in 1979, when she relocated back to Pittsburgh, where she lived when she was younger with her family.
