Councils confirmed the secondary school that your child has a place at last Wednesday (March 1).
With that in mind, the Ham&High has had a look at which are the top schools across Camden, Barnet, Westminster and Haringey and which are the worst – according to Ofsted.
CAMDEN
Outstanding
There are currently no outstanding secondary state schools in north Camden.
Camden School for Girls and College Francais Bilingue de Londres, in Kentish Town were not best pleased at being downgraded from the top spot in the last year.
Nor was Henrietta Barnett School in Barnet.
Swiss Cottage School – Development & Research Centre, a special school in Avenue Road, Swiss Cottage, was rated outstanding in February 2014 and had a short inspection in June 2017.
The Royal Free Hospital Children’s School, a special school in Pond Street, Hampstead, was rated outstanding in November 2019.
Fine Arts College, an independent school in Englands Lane, Belsize Park, was inspected in April 2012.
North Bridge House Preparatory School, in Gloucester Avenue, Primrose Hill, is an independent school that was last inspected in May 2011.
The Academy School, in Rosslyn Hill, Hampstead, is an independent school that was rated outstanding in January 2020.
Inadequate
There is one inadequate school, which is Elfrida Rathbone Camden – Leighton Education Project, in Dowdney Close, Kentish Town, which gives education and training to young people aged 16 to 25 who have a range of special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) which was downgraded from ‘good’ last June.
BARNET
Barnet has 52 secondary schools that serve 33,537 students for the school year 2023, 32 of which are state high schools.
Outstanding
The Archer Academy, in Eagans Close, East Finchley, inspected in June 2019.
Queen Elizabeth’s School, Queen’s Road, a boys’ grammar school for 11 to 18-year-olds.
St Michael’s Catholic Grammar School, in Nether Street, North Finchley, a girls grammar, with a mixed sixth form, inspected in December 2022
Hasmonean High School for Boys, in Holders Hill, Hendon, was rated outstanding in 2012.
The Compton School, in Summers Lane, North Finchley, a mixed secondary converted into an academy in 2012 and given the highest rating in 2018.
Woodhouse College, an academy for children aged 16 to 19 in Woodhouse Road, North Finchley, was given the top rating in July 2022.
Consistent high performer Wren Academy, in Hilton Avenue, North Finchley is a mixed school for 4 to 18-year-olds, inspected in November 2018
North London Grammar School, in Colindeep Lane, Colindale, is a mixed independent school for seven to 18-year-olds, last inspected in May 2018.
The Holmewood School, in Woodside Park Road, Woodside Park, is an independent school rated outstanding in July 2022.
Ellern Mede School Limited, in Holcombe Hill, Ridgeway, Mill Hill, is a private mixed school for eight to 18-year-olds rated outstanding in October 2022.
Inadequate
Shiras Devorah High School, an independent school in Finchley Road, rated inadequate in 2019 and again in 2022.
Lubavitch Yeshiva Ketanah of London, an independent school also in Finchley Road, first rated inadequate in 2018 with its latest report published in February 2023.
Lubavitch Senior Boys School, an independent school at the same address, rated inadequate after an inspection in January 2022 and inspected again in November 2022.
Talmud Torah Tiferes Shlomo, an independent school in Danescroft Avenue, Hendon, was rated inadequate in July 2022 after an inspection that May.
Beis Medrash Elyon, an independent school in West Hendon Broadway, West Hendon, was rated inadequate in October 2021, with an additional inspection in December 2022.
Pardes House Grammar School, an independent school in Hendon Lane, Finchley, was inspected in May 2022 and the report published in October 2022.
Menorah Grammar School, in Abbots Road, Edgware, is an independent school rated inadequate in March 2020 and last inspected in April 2021.
Haringey
There are two outstanding state schools in the west of the borough.
Mixed comprehensive Alexandra Park School, in Bidwell Gardens, Muswell Hill, was rated outstanding in 2011, a year before its conversion to academy status in 2012.
The Archer Academy, in Eagans Close, East Finchley.
And TreeHouse School, a special school in Woodside Avenue, Muswell Hill, was rated outstanding in December 2017.
Inadequate
There are no schools rated inadequate by Ofsted in Haringey.
Westminster
Outstanding
St George’s Catholic School, a secondary school in Lanark Road, Maida Vale, was rated outstanding in December 2014, a year after it became an academy.
St Augustine’s Federated Schools, Church of England High School, a secondary school in Oxford Road, North Maida Vale, was given the top rating in October 2013.
Paddington Academy, in Marylands Road, Maida Hill, is a secondary school rated outstanding in November 2011.
Inadequate
There are no schoools rated inadequate by Ofsted in St John’s Wood and Maida Vale.
