Batman and Catwoman Just Split Up Again… In Fortnite

Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point #6 saw the Dark Knight’s return to Gotham but he’s already regretting his departure from the world of Fortnite.

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point #6, by Donald Mustard, Christos Gage, Reilly Brown, Nelson DeCastro, John Kalisz and AndWorld Design, on sale now.

Batman’s time in the confusing world of Fortnite appears to be at an end. After Batman got caught in an infinite time loop, faced betrayal at the hands of Deathstroke and was forced to fight a duplicate of himself, he’s likely thankful for his return to Gotham. Batman’s arrival in Gotham led to the return of his memories, shattering the perfect partnership that he had obtained while in the world of Fortnite.

When Batman was first flung through the rift, he was horrified to discover the loss of his voice and memories. Even worse, time would reset every 22 minutes, removing any memories that Batman made during that time. He would eventually find a familiar face as he stumbled across Catwoman. Though they held no memories of each other, they still felt a familiarity when looking at one another. Their suspicions were confirmed when they fought side-by-side. They easily made short work of multiple groups of enemies without the need for vocal communication as they searched for a way out of the time loop.

Even though their memories reset every 22 minutes, the emotional component of these memories remained. The Cat and the Bat mastered nonverbal communication and devised a plan that allowed them to escape the time loop. This led them to another layer within the world of Fortnite where they could speak. They were soon joined by various Fortnite characters as well as Deathstroke. As the newly formed team split up to search the island, Batman and Catwoman paired together in search of a way back to their homeworld.

Their full memories had not returned which made the pair question who they were outside of the rift. They came to believe they could be husband and wife. As they worked their way deeper into the world, they soon reached Zero Point. This area allowed the various characters to return to their home dimension. Unfortunately, the Dark Knight and Catwoman were betrayed by Deathstroke and had to find another way back to Gotham.

Batman realized that they needed a third person from Gotham to return to their home dimension and recalled recognizing Harley Quinn while in the time loop. Batman and Catwoman captured Quinn before returning to Zero Point, where they opened a portal to Gotham. Catwoman was hesitant about returning home as she felt that they had the potential to be happy in their new world. She did not know what would be waiting for them on the other side and feared that it could cause them to separate. Batman pondered why Catwoman believed they would not be as happy at home before stating that he felt he had an obligation to return to his homeworld and protect it.

The pair jumped through the portal and were quickly transported to a Gotham rooftop. At first, they felt that nothing had changed, but the memories quickly came flooding back. Upon remembering their history, Catwoman fled from the rooftop, exclaiming that they should have stayed. Realizing that Selina was gone, Batman returned to Jim Gordon to ask about Deathstroke. Gordon stated that Deathstroke escaped but seemed unconcerned since no one was hurt. Bruce grunted somberly at this statement as he felt that he had lost something of great importance during this adventure — his rekindled love from Selina.

Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle just can’t seem to make it work. The pair have been married countless times, even seen as recently as Tom King, Mikel Janin, Hugo Petrus, Jordie Bellaire and Clayton Cowles’ Batman #85’s unofficial marriage. Though the two care deeply for each other, their history always appears to get in the way. The world of Fortnite may have presented the only opportunity for these two to have the perfect relationship they always hoped for.
