Barnet boss delighted with successful passage in ‘best competition in world’

A hat-trick from Nicke Kabamba and a late header from Harry Pritchard secured a 4-0 win for the Bees, and Brennan was more than satisfied with the performance.

“We knew they’d tire,” he said of the National League South side, “but it was important that we never gave anything away.

“The first five minutes, to be fair, they had a couple of chances and efforts on our goal from a turnover.

“Their forwards ran down the sides, and I didn’t like that, but apart from that, we just had to do a professional job.

“Which we did.”

Brennan was also keen to point out that a run in the FA Cup most certainly falls within the expectations of the club this season as the Bees continue to raise the bar.

“It’s the best competition in the world, and we want to do well,” he exclaimed.

“Ideally, we’d like to have home ties, but we now move on to Curzon Ashton [in the first round proper], which is a really tough tie.

“But we’re raising the bar every week. We respect this competition and the FA Trophy so much.

“I played the strongest team available and I’ll do the same Saturday, and I’ll do the same in all the other rounds, especially the FA Trophy as well.

“We got to the semi-finals last season, so we’d like to go one better.”

The north London club are second in the National League, five points clear of Solihull Moors, who visit the Hive in just under a week’s time.

But when asked about the prospect of promotion, Brennan was quick to dismiss the idea.

“One game at a time,” he said. “It’s an old cliché but it’s the truth at the end of the day.

“In our division, you can lose three games on the bounce just like that. We go Saturday and then again on Tuesday, so we’ve got some really hard games coming up, so we can’t look ahead too far.”

The Bees now look ahead to an important National League clash against Maidenhead United on Saturday afternoon before hosting the Moors just four days later on home soil.
