An artist who was known for making plaster casts of rock stars’ penises has died at the age of 74.

Cynthia Albritton was notorious on the rock scene in the 1960s and 1970s for making moulds of rockers’ genitals.

A spokesperson for the artist confirmed she died on Thursday after suffering from a ‘long illness’.

The 1977 Kiss track, Plaster Caster, was written about the artist, with lyrics including ‘The plaster’s gettin’ harder/ And my love is perfection/ A token of my love/ For her collection.’

However the members of Kiss apparently never submitted to the process of having their penises cast.

The artist made over 100 casts in her career and exhibited her work in New York and Germany(Getty Images)

Despite this, Albritton was clearly a fan of the song and had embraced the title, using Cynthia Plaster Caster as her own name.

According to Loudwire, Albritton, who was from Chicago, made penis moulds of everyone from Jimi Hendrix to Dead Kennedys’ Jello Biafra.

She later branched out to include plaster moulds of breasts, including the lead singer of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Karen O.

Multiple songs were penned about the artists by rock band across the United States and beyond, and Albritton was also the focus of several documentaries.

The 2001 documentary Plaster Caster centres directly around her work and her exhibitions, which were on display in New York City and Germany.

Albritton led a unique life and was not bound just by her artistic career.

In 2010, she ran for Mayor of Chicago but was ultimately unsuccessful.
