In the latest claim regarding Apple’s upcoming AR/VR headset, tech analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has said that the headset will come with “3P pancake lenses” with a folded design which will allow light to reflect back and forth between the display and the lenses, a design language which could help make the headset more compact and lightweight. Kuo made the claim in his latest research paper with TF International Securities, seen by MacRumors.
The analyst claims that Apple will release the AR/VR headset by the end of 2022, with the headset going into production by the second quarter of 2022.
There are plenty of claims and rumours about the Apple AR/VR headset. An earlier report by The Information had claimed that the headset will feature a curved visor fitted with a soft mesh material and swappable headbands. The source of the claim was a “last-stage prototype” the publication had seen.
Ming-Chi Kuo had last year said that Apple plans to replace the iPhone with the new AR/VR headset, a claim which Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said was not possible with the first generation of the headsets. Gurman had said that the Apple headset is being designed keeping three key customer interests: gaming, media consumption and communication.
As per rumours, the Apple AR/VR headset is expected to be powered by two main processors, have two 4K micro-LED displays, 15 optical modules and have other features like eye-tracking, Wi-Fi 6E and more.
