According to a report by Verge, NordVPN has said, “We are concerned that there may be some limitations for consumer VPN products and the update will only benefit B2B VPN solutions. If not, our users will be able to use NordVPN on their Apple TVs sometime in the nearest future.”
Importance of a native VPN app for Apple TV
This feature can come in handy for users as they won’t have to wait to get home to watch streaming shows while traveling with an Apple TV 4K. It will be possible considering native VPN apps on Apple’s streaming box work as they do on other devices.
Currently, in tvOS 17, users can access VPN with their Apple TV by installing a service on their router. However, it is important to note that not all routers support VPN services. Native VPN is one of the few advantages that Google’s Chromecast or Amazon’s Fire TV devices have over the Apple TV.
Other Apple devices like iPhones, iPads and Macs already support native VPN services. Adding the ability to Apple TV will be helpful as users will be able to stream shows that aren’t available in their own country.
Other Apple tvOS 17 features
Some of the other features announced with Apple tvOS 17 include enhanced dialogue. This feature will separate dialogue from background noise and will route it through the center channel. tvOS 17 also gets support for Dolby Vision 8.1.
The latest software version for Apple TV is also set to bring updates to Apple Fitness+. These new updates will add custom workout and meditation plans that users can schedule based on things such as their day, preferred duration, and workout type.
Apple tvOS17 will also add stacked workouts, which is essentially a workout playlist option. Meanwhile, the Audio Focus feature will enable users to prioritise music volume or Apple’s trainers’ voices.
