Akshay Kumar, Radhika Madan to begin filming for Suriya’s Soorarai Pottru untitled Hindi remake

Joining the extensive list of South Indian films to get a Hindi adaptation is Suriya’s crowd-pleaser Soorarai Pottru. The Bollywood remake will be led by Akshay Kumar alongside Radhika Madan. Akshay talked about the project in a social media post today, revealing that filming for the project has officially started. The as yet untitled film is being directed by Sudha Kongara, who also directed the original.

News of the exciting development came with a video in which Radhika Madan can be seen breaking the auspicious coconut to mark the beginning of production. Akshay Kumar also asked fans to share their title suggestions for the Soorarai Pottru remake.

“With the auspicious coconut-breaking and a small prayer in our heart, we begin the filming of our yet untitled film which is about dreams and the power of it. In case you’ll have any title suggestions, do share and of course your best wishes,” said Akshay in his tweet.

The plot of Soorarai Pottru follows an ambitious young man from an Indian village who embarks on an extraordinary journey to bring an affordable airline service to the masses. Suriya’s 2020 film arrived on streaming amidst the pandemic and was an instant hit among fans and critics alike. It remains to be seen how the Hindi remake will shape up. The original was a biopic of sorts of Air Deccan founder GR Gopinath.

South Indian superstar Suriya also shared the update about the “new beginning” and collaboration with Akshay Kumar on his Twitter handle. 

At present, Akshay Kumar is fresh off the release of Bachchhan Paandey which garnered mixed reviews. His line-up of upcoming titles includes Ram Setu, Prithviraj, Selfie, OMG 2, among others. Meanwhile, Radhika Madan was last seen in Shiddat.
