AirAsia posts brisk March sales; Cebu, Boracay top destinations

MANILA, Philippines  -The resurgence of travelers has been boded well for the airline industry, with AirAsia Philippines recording 95-percent growth in forward bookings just this month.

In a statement on Monday, the budget carrier said it had sold 475,000 tickets for passengers traveling on March 1 to March 31.

Top destinations for the period are Cebu, Boracay, Tacloban, Taipei, Bangkok and Seoul.

”AirAsia’s competitive pricing is still seen as among the top motivators for guests choosing to fly with us. Our effort of mounting different online and on-ground travel promos is our way of providing the best value for our guests’ hard-earned money,” said AirAsia Philippines communications and public affairs country head Steve Dailisan.

To encourage more travelers, the airline is offering P1 one-way base fare promo from March 13 to 19 for flights to Boracay, Bohol, Puerto Princesa, Bacolod, Davao, Kalibo, Cagayan de Oro and Roxas.

This year, AirAsia Philippines is set to receive additional 10 aircraft to cater to more passengers as it expands route capacity. It currently manages a fleet of 14 units.

Tony Fernandes, CEO of AirAsia parent firm Capital A, previously told reporters they were projecting the number of passengers to double and anticipating cheaper cargo delivery services with more aircraft coming in.

The low-cost airline also targets full restoration of its flight capacities this year with the further reopening of the economy. It recently reopened routes to Japan and China, which are among the most popular travel destinations in the world.
