Adriana Chechik swatted while recovering from TwitchCon back injury
Unfortunately, TwitchCon 2022 isn’t going to be remembered for anything other than its dangerous foam pit, which injured several attendees, including Twitch streamer and influencer Adriana Chechik.
After jumping in, Chechik broke her back in two places and had to undergo a series of lengthy surgeries to treat her injuries, as they were much more serious than her doctors originally thought.
Although the streamer is much better now, and occasionally still goes live on Twitch, her back hasn’t fully healed from the accident.
That hasn’t been the end of her woes though, as through a post on Twitter, Chechik revealed that she’s been targeted by internet trolls, who have repeatedly been sending the police to her doorstep, an act known as swatting.
‘Tell me how some internet trolls are going to swat a person who’s back is still healing from being broken…,’ Chechik wrote in disbelief.
What is swatting?
Swatting refers to making hoax calls to the police, or other emergency services, reporting a major incident, with the hope that an armed SWAT team will be sent to an address. For obvious reasons, swatting is most common in the US but it does happen elsewhere and is frequently used against influencers, including during livestreams.
She claimed that this has been happening so frequently that the local police force has gotten to know her by now.
The identity of those behind the malicious prank remains unknown, and Chechik didn’t reveal if she’s looking to press charges.
While Chechik was being treated for her back injuries, she also found out that she was pregnant at the time.
Sadly, she couldn’t progress with the pregnancy due to her surgeries, which, combined with the public’s attention, took a toll both on her physical and mental health.
After announcing the swatting attempts on Twitter, her fans were quick to sympathise with her and wished her a fast recovery.
