Adele Roberts has left BBC Radio 1 after eight years, it has been confirmed.

The 44-year-old presenter, who announced she was cancer free last June, hosted her last show in May.

She has not yet commented on her exit.

Head of Radio 1, Aled Haydn Jones, heaped praise on Adele following the news of her departure.

‘She continually goes above and beyond for others and I want to say a huge thank you to her for everything,’ he said, adding that she ‘always puts others first’.

‘Whether it’s key workers during the pandemic on her show, other people’s health during her own diagnosis of cancer,’ he said.

Adele joined the Radio 1 family as the new Early Breakfast Show presenter in 2015, following in the footsteps of Greg James, Scott Mills, Chris Moyles, and Dev.

In 2020, she became the first Black woman to host the network’s Breakfast Show after the regular presenter Greg failed to make it on air after attending The Brit Awards.

It was later revealed that this was a planned stunt in which listeners had to locate his whereabouts with a series of clues.

Over the past two years, Adele has shared details of her health journey after being diagnosed with bowel cancer in October 2021.

In January 2022, she shared that a tumour had been removed and that she had undergone chemotherapy treatment.

Adele has also been vocal about living with a stoma, whom she has affectionately named Audrey.
