MANILA  -The Aboitiz Group recently broke ground on a new industrial site inside its 800-hectare LIMA Estate in the province of Batangas, paving the way for locator companies to set up shop or expand their operations inside the special economic zone.

Aboitiz InfraCapital (AIC), the infrastructure arm of the Aboitiz Group, said the new 96-hectare industrial site designation can accommodate the demands of manufacturing, logistics, and automotive firms planning to locate in the Calabarzon (Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, Rizal, Quezon) region.

“Our expansion of LIMA Estate will create more job opportunities in our communities here and will respond to the increasing demand for industrial spaces in the country,” LIMA Land vice president for operations Clifford Academia said during the groundbreaking ceremony held in Batangas.

AIC said this latest industrial expansion is expected to generate up to 31,000 new jobs for local residents, as well as from those nearby provinces once the build-out of new locators is completed.

The company said some of the companies which have begun construction of their facilities there include Indonesian ice cream brand Aice, warehouse and housing firm El Colono del Oeste Inc, and manufacturing company Ogura Clutch Philippines Inc

The industrial-anchored, mixed-use estate, which drew its name for being situated in both the city of Lipa and the municipality of Malvar, currently has 150 locator firms employing more than 65,000 people.

Aside from the LIMA Estate in Batangas, AIC also has the 540-hectare West Cebu Estate in Balamban, Cebu, and the 63-hectare Mactan Economic Zone 2 Estate in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.
