On the Tuesday 4th October 2022, several schools, including St Bede’s, were invited to Thorpe Park by the ACS International Schools to take part in the STEAM event (STEAM meaning Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths). There were several activities to take part in, such as playing different musical instruments with The Royal Philharmonic orchestra, talking to the Royal Air Force about their job and the history of the RAF, see Titan the Robot in action around the park and around 70 other companies hosting their specific activitiy. Thorpe Park was closed to the public so that this event could take place and could run smoothly.
In order to go on a ride, students had to complete at least 5 activities which were situated around the park, giving the students a chance to explore and to delve deep and hone their knowledge and skills. Once finished, students were allowed to pick which ride they wanted to go on. To go on all of the rides, students had to complete at least 20 activities situated around the park.
Hannah Golliker, one of the students that attended the event, told me how she enjoyed the event and how much fun she had going on the rides and talking to companies about what they do and the history of each. She also told me that if she had the chance, she would’ve loved to go back to Thorpe Park to take part in the event again at some point in the near future.
